Two sisters, a trip abroad, and a zany idea

Have you ever seen something that completely wowed you? That happened to my sister and I this summer when we were travelling in Europe with my son and his girlfriend. At random we stopped in a gift store and discovered a booth that would take a high resolution photo of your eye and convert it to art. Looking at the wonderful detail of my son's eye, we were blown away and that very night started to do research on how we might be able to bring this offering to Ottawa. It's quite popular in Europe and is just starting to take root in North America.

 

We quickly formed a vision of how it could all unfold.

 

We've also always enjoyed creating pretty spaces and often dreamed of starting a boutique or wine bar. The stars seemed to align as we focused on the "why to" and not the "why not to" thoughts that would undoubtedly pop up. Within just over two months, we found an inspired location (more on that in a moment), attended the gift show in Toronto, reached out to friends and acquaintances that owned their own creative businesses to curate giftware to compliment the eye art and opened the boutique. We also surrounded ourselves with other talented women to bring our vision to life.

Part of our goal is to create a destination. A place where people can come and browse through ever-changing and unique treasures. All the while enjoying a complimentary cup of tea or coffee while they explore.  As women entrepreneurs, the majority of the products we carry are Canadian and created by women-led businesses.

Above all we hope our patrons feel inspired, respected and surprised after a visit. We welcome you to share in making our dream a reality!

P.S. A very special thanks to Ali and Tom and the entire Mad About Patchwork family. We were fortunate enough to discover this amazing place they have created on the cusp of Stittsville. As soon as we saw the rental spot, we knew it was the perfect setting to embark on our new adventure. As farm girls, the old barn with it's rustic interior, thick walls, fireplace and oodles of character immediately grabbed a place in our heart. We are very grateful to be sharing the location with such an energetic and creative business and people.
